Neko Harbour lies on the eastern shore of Andvord Bay, approximately 11 km (7 mi) south of the Errera Channel. It was discovered by Gerlache during his Belgian Antarctic expedition (1897-99). Named after the floating whale factory ship, Neko, that used this harbor and operated between the 1911-12 and 1923-24 summers in the South Shetlands and the Antarctic Peninsula. Set amongst the backdrop of a spectacular calving glacier, this site is a continental landing and home to approximately 250 breeding pairs of Gentoo penguins. Weddell seals may also be seen hauled out on the cobblestone beach or above the landing site.
