The adventure began in Punta Arenas, the gateway to Antarctica. Punta Arenas is a vibrant port city located in southern Chile, near the tip of the Patagonian region. It sits along the Strait of Magellan, offering stunning views of the surrounding fjords and mountains. Known for its rich history, Punta Arenas was a key stopover for 19th-century explorers and is now a gateway to the remote landscapes of Patagonia and Antarctica. The city boasts a mix of colonial architecture, lively markets, and a strong maritime heritage. With its unique blend of cultural and natural attractions, Punta Arenas serves as a base for adventurers and a hub for exploring one of the world's most rugged and beautiful regions.
After checking in at Explorers House, expedition boots were picked up and a visit was made to the "Don't Pack a Pest" biosecurity station to protect Antarctica's environment. This was necessary as to avoid taking any bugs or germs into Antarctica's pristine environment. Later, the Mandatory Welcome Briefing was attended to review Antarctic guidelines and Zodiac safety. The day ended with a welcome cocktail and dinner at Explorers House, where travellers mingled and toasted to the adventure ahead.
